Region 11 Medicaid Mobile Dental Program

The UT Health Science Center Mobile Dental Clinic is part of the Texas Dental Medicaid Initiative. The Mobile Dental Clinic travels to various rural areas of the state’s Region 11 and provides comprehensive dental care services to children that have Medicaid or are eligible for Medicaid and do not have a dentist that is seen on a regular basis. Dental care is currently being provided to children age birth to 21 in the counties of Duval, Starr and Zapata.

The Mobile Clinic operates two days a week for a period of time in one location and then moves to another city for a couple of months. A return visit to participating communities occurs when the children are due for their follow-up care or for recall dental exams and cleanings. Patients are contacted by our staff and scheduled for the follow-up or recall exams.

The Dental Home will be based at the Laredo Health Department in Laredo, Texas. Children that require more extensive dental treatment may be referred for specialty care at the Laredo Health Department or to a pediatric dentist that has a dental practice in the participating communities.
